Funny someone should mention baptisms.

I was baptized back when I was in college. This was in mid April, very shortly after the snow had melted, yet we were still getting cold and snowy days. On a whim one afternoon I ran into the minister of the college Christian group in front of the coffee shop they had on campus. A quick couple of questions he had for me turned into a half hour conversation about baptism, ending with me making the decision to be baptized. We set it up for later that night, right after our normal weekly meeting. We would go to the main local church the minister went to on Sundays and do the baptism there. Well, there ended up being a problem with that. The baptistry they had was drained and being repaired due to a crack in it. He offered to do it at a nearby river the next day, but it was still cold and in the 40s, so I declined. I had friends encouraging me to do it in the cold anyways, but I have a strong aversion to cold like that. One of my friends was even saying how he was baptized in February outside and they were pulling ice out of the tank as he was getting in it. That didn't change my mind though.

That Thursday came and it was a really nice day out, 70s and sunny. We had a worship night on the campus lawn that evening. Again the ministered offered to do it in the river the next day, and I agreed as long as the weather would be similar to how it was today. So, the next day I wake up and it's 30 degrees, cold, high winds, cloudy, and snowing off and on. I opened up Facebook and the first post I saw was the minister's, advertising my baptism today like it's still happening at the river. I commented that it was not going to happen at the river, due to the weather conditions not being what they were yesterday.

Lunch rolled around and I ended up eating alone at the cafeteria, which was exceedingly rare since I had many friends at college from classes, roommates, and clubs I was involved in. So as I ate my lunch I prayed and asked God that if He wanted me to be baptized today, He would have to provide a way. When I finished lunch and got back to my dorm room, I opened Facebook again, and the first post I saw was once again from the minister announcing that my baptism was postponed due to the weather (and the baptistry at the church still being down). I checked some of the comments on it, and one of them was from some friend of the minister's, offering that we could use their hot tub for the baptism. I commented that I could do that, as I've been in a hot tub in winter before and that didn't bother me. Fast forward to 4 o'clock and we made our way to this person's house and got ready for the baptism, with about 20 of us attending from that Christian group. While we were all standing around the hot tub, part of the deck collapsed, a board broke in half, but only the part where the minister and I were standing, not the 20 other people surrounding this. After that, we had the minister's first even hot tub baptism. I was wearing baggy blue basketball shorts and a gray t-shirt. I was still fairly new to getting my clothes wet at this point, so I was kinda nervous to do it with all these people staring at me, but I didn't hesitate to get into the hot tub. The water felt great, and I remember for the rest of the day I had a smile no one could wipe off my face.
