Well done for coming out of your shell and daring to invite others to join you. During all my swimming years I have never had the nerve to ask someone to join me.
This weekend I was in Weymouth and I had a great swim in the sea wearing... swim shorts only! In a way it was nice to be like everyone else for once. I didn't have to pretend to fall in the water to justify being wet, I didn't look around to see who was watching, and nobody interviewed me about my mental health. The past two summers I was in Bournemouth and Torquay. Torquay seemed OK to swim fully clothed except for one Karen was called out to me about getting lost on my walk as I waded into the sea. In Bournemouth I had the usual "Are you OK?" rubbish and spending agonising amounts of time trying to convince people that I was not going to go out to sea to meet my death.
Britain likes to put on a show of being an accepting society when it is anything but.
