That was meant to read "...adverts for evening classes ON local radio...", Yet more alternatives: local charity shops (often run by women), or run your own online forum about a subject that delights you (power transmission lines, model railways, etc), join a local model railway club?, write a MMO or a MUD and run it on a server via your home broadband (I used to do that, as I mentioned elsewhere (Wanderland)), maybe occasionally volunteer at Bletchley Park TNMOC (travel via the Marston Vale line, changing at Bedford) or the London Transport museum (Covent Garden), etc. Hope these suggestions are vaguely useful :)
